Pale Choir
A set of three linked figures on a shared base, painted in a restricted bone-and-verdigris palette with no metallic paint anywhere in the piece.
The brief
An exercise in removing a tool: no metallic paint, on a subject that is mostly armour and chain. Everything that should read as metal is built from value alone, using bone whites against a cold verdigris green.
Build notes
The three figures are pinned independently but composed as one silhouette — from the front they overlap into a single mass, and only from the side do they separate.
Finishing
Oil glazes over an acrylic base, which allows the transitions on the cloth to stay open for days while the composition gets adjusted.
